Thirsty (for stuff) Thursday - Marine Mania

Happy Thursday! To be honest, I have no idea where the week has gone. I thought Tuesday was Thursday but then realized that it wasn't...and that's where I have been all week...floating in the ether.
ANYWAY, I hope your week has had more structure than mine leading out of the fog of confusion.
On a happy note Last night I met my boyfriend's parents :) It was a success! They are very kind people and we got along quite well.
Onto Etsy, please meet Bigg-Mac: my latest creature. He is a crab. And would like to be worn rather than eaten...but this was my first attempt using props in Etsy photos. What do you think?

Make it Monday: Thai Shrimp-Halibut Curry Recipe from Bon Apetit

Make: Thai Shrimp Curry
{Thai Shrimp Halibut Curry recipe source}

Happy Monday (well I hope you had a happy Monday!). Boy, today felt tragic despite nothing tragic happening.  I've been cleaning the apartment like crazy, and doing laundry all in preparation of meeting my boyfriend's parents. They're actually flying into San Fran airport as I type. As it turns out my BF grew up on the island of Oahu which is super cool because my dad, and his side of the family) is also from Oahu. It feels as though judgment day is sooner than May 12th...anyway the stress is building. PLUS I kept mucking up on a pair of earrings. On the plus side the apt is spotless, there are clean folded clothes in the dresser AND I found a delicious recipe in my new Bon Apetit mag --> today's how to!

Alrighty then, let's get this party started! So here is the list of groceries you'll be wanting:
Since this is a pretty expensive dish, and I happen to be quite frugal, I changed it up a bit. Beware that the ingredients listed is in the actual mag, and I omitted the ones crossed out. Truth be told it tasted heavenly! Just what I needed at the end of the day.

  •  limes

  • vegetable oil

  • shallots -->used onions instead

  • red bell pepper

  • fresh ginger

  • Thai red curry paste (such as Thai Kitchen brand)

  • unsweetened coconut milk

  • fish sauce (such as nam pla or nuoc nam)

  • halibut fillets

  • large shrimp (8 to 10 ounces)

  • fresh cilantro

  • fresh basil

  • I highly recommend to use fresh ginger, basil and cilantro because they add so much flavor to the dish! Its pretty light and filling. Again, I profusely apologize for not taking photos but it's pretty simple: chop, simmer, and eat! Those are my favorite. So please check out the source link and follow the directions. I was skeptical of the coconut milk but with all of the food (plus white rice) it was just right.
The boyfriend really, really, really enjoyed this meal and he's a pretty picky eater so it double pleased me. Please let me know how it turns out if you decide to make it. AND let me know how it is if you decide to use ALL of the ingredients. I still can't muster up the courage to buy the fish sauce and halibut.

There you have it. Sorry for being tardy but THANK YOU for checking in!
    Yum!

Thirsty (for stuff) Thursday - Inspired to Create

Happy Thursday!  Hopefully this week has been treating you well. So, this week's theme is Inspired to Create because every time Thursday rolls around inspiration peaks and I want to make the beautiful products found on Etsy. This week has beautiful products and the products you would need to make something similar. Etsy sellers have a lot more to offer than finished products, they also provide the means for a personal creative outlet. I hope you enjoy!

My goal this week has been to increase productivity. Here is a little of what I have to show from my goal of being more productive: studs. I have been wanting to create post earrings for some time now and here they are!!! Let me know what you think.

    Addendum: Jersey knit Bracelet

AHA! I did it, I told you I would didn't I? Alright, two bracelets were made after many attempts. All three examples were tried and my favorite ended up being the one using 3 fingers.

First attempt using the 3 finger technique using an old shirt from the bf :)
2nd attempted using 3 different colors (4 fingers)

Step 1: find cotton  T-shits that you can cut up and, cut 3 (or 4 if you have larger wrists) strips of Tshirt as if making a t-shirt cowl. Then follow the directions in connecting strips.

Then weave strip between fingers like that ^

Slip your fingers through starting with your pinkie finger.
Slip the rest of your fingers through. Continue this process of bending the striping over your palm followed by finger slipping until all 3 strips have been woven.

Just like this! Slip the end through the finger holes, then pull end strings tightly, and finally tie into a knot. Ta-da! A bracelet.

The bracelet should look something like this (minus the dog nose).

There you have it. I hope I have redeemed myself a bit. Send me pics of how yours turned out and I'll post them on the blog!
Thanks for tuning in! Be sure to check in tomorrow for a neat T(fs)T.

Make it Monday: T-shirts into Jersey Knit Bracelet by V and Co

Today's Make: Jersey Knit Bracelet by V and Co.

Happy MONDAY! It is finally beginning to feel like spring in the east bay. The sun has been shining (consistently) and the temperatures have been in the high 60's to mid 70's! Warm enough to a tank-top, skirt and flip flops...just my kind of weather. I've been noticing that my dog has a strong love/hate relationship with this kind of weather. She loves it because its warm, sunny (she's a sun bather) and we go on long walks...and those are the exact reasons why she hates this weather! It's too darn hot to stay outside for long. At least it mellows her out. :)
This is not my dog, but it sure does look ready for spring!
This is my "puppy" she's about 2 and my craft supervisor.
Taking a break to sunbathe...oh the good life!
I feel incredibly lame...I've been looking forward to this week's How-to but I haven't even done it yet! Gosh  >_<  So last night I decided that I would visit my parents today. And the goal was to finish it up this afternoon and post pics but I (lamely) forgot to pack my camera. Which brings me to this very moment with a t-shirt, fingers, scissors but no way to visually document the process. :(  I suppose the pics will have to be posted on Thursday along with this week's edition of Thirst (for stuff) Thursday. Truth be told I've been dying to do this for a while. Here is the link: V and Co. They have created a wonderful tutorial and I hope you check it out.

    Here are my newest creatures:

    Wow: Periodic Table of Elements

Again, sorry for being incredibly lame. I hope you liked this tutorial and my new little creatures. Take care and keep in touch!
